The NSC at recent events
The recent freedoms introduced across the country have allowed the Naval Shipbuilding College (NSC) team to host and participate in several events during the latter months of 2021.
In collaboration with South Metropolitan TAFE and Programmed WA, the NSC co-hosted a Welding Sundowner and Defence Industry Update to showcase SM TAFE’s 16 welding simulators at their Naval Base campus in Western Australia. It was a fantastic opportunity for the team to network with our defence industry colleagues and try the art of welding!
The NSC team participated in virtual and face-to-face Department of Education, Skills and Employment (DESE) events – we spoke to education providers about opportunities in Western Australia during the Local Job Programs Employment Service Providers webinar and interacted with candidates at the Adelaide North Jobs Fair.
In November, we attended TAFE SA’s Regency campus to speak to a group of aspiring designers and drafting technicians about naval shipbuilding opportunities in SA. These students have recently commenced a Diploma of Engineering Technical, a qualification that ensures many opportunities in naval shipbuilding.
The long-awaited Science Alive Adelaide finally took place in November and was a fantastic three days! On the first day, we presented the NSC to thousands of school students who participated in the STEM Day Out and joined the Women in STEM Panel, comprising of highly respected females in STEM careers. We were fortunate to be joined by ASC Pty Ltd Lead Structural Engineer, Melissa Weston and Lead Engineer, Anna Lam who spoke with NSC Candidate Engagement Consultant Trish about their amazing careers and the STEM opportunities within naval shipbuilding. Throughout the rest of the weekend, the NSC team chatted with many aspiring shipbuilders and their families.
To complete the year, the City of Playford brought together key defence industry partners for their 2021 Defence Industry Day at Lionsgate Business Park. It was an insightful event for the NSC team as we heard from key industry speakers, including BAE Systems Maritime Australia, Lockheed Martin, Saab, Babcock and Defence SA.
We are looking forward to participating in many more in-person events in 2022. Keep an eye on our social media and website to see where you can find the NSC team next year!
