If you have studied an engineering discipline and/or have experience working as an engineer in Australia’s Naval Shipbuilding Industry or adjacent industries like Oil & Gas, Power, Water, Construction or the Australia Defence Forces, this may be the career for you.

As the program manager you are responsible for the delivery of key programs within industry standard frameworks. You will lead collaboration with stakeholders to build strong relationships in complex environments and undertake a joint approach to solve complex deliverables.

Project Manager

As a project manager you have responsibility for overall project outcomes and utilisation of a range of tools and methodologies to drive efficiency and on-time delivery.

You will use your highly developed organisation, prioritisations and relationship skills to manage a series of activities to accomplish a goal within a start and end date.

Project Scheduler

As a project scheduler you will be responsible for creating and managing organised records of work activities. Your job is integral to contributing to increasing work efficiencies and processes and coordination of production tasks.

You will possess advanced organisational and communication skills, with an ability to think logically and problem solve and have excellent attention to detail. As a subcontract administrator your duties, within the delegated authority, will have a focus on customer service, risk management and obtaining value-for-money outcomes. You will lead the development of solicitation documentation, conduct tendering and evaluation activities and establish and implement contract management frameworks in accordance with current best practice and corporate governance framework.

As a QC analyst you are responsible for developing and implementing high quality testing standards, reporting, processes and recommendations to meet project objectives.

As the quality dimensional control manager you will develop and document clear sampling requirements for testing, commissioning audits and verification. You will also develop and document clear sampling requirements for design audit, verification & benchmarking checks across various portfolios.

As a QC surveyor you undertake survey activities, inspections, witnessing, process/weld audits and review of quality documentation and provide third-party independent inspection of product or services.

You will also mentor, develop and train other team members ensuring the sharing of knowledge and lessons learnt to increase team capability and experience (i.e. CMM, laser scanning etc.).

As a Welder you will specialise in light metal, heavy metal and pressure welding (TIG, MIG, MMAW etc) to put together naval components and main steel structures or parts with a great deal of precision.

As a Light Fabrication Tradesperson, you will be responsible for performing a wide range of fabrication work including working with steel, stainless steel, aluminum, copper or brass; MIG, TIG & spot welding and sheet metal fabrication; performing precision CNC bending; CNC punching; laser cutting; fastener insertion; and product assembly such as jigs and fixtures.

As a Mechanical Tradesperson you will be responsible for applying a range of mechanical trade techniques to support the manufacture, installation and testing of naval components in accordance with trade processes and work instructions.

Electrical Engineer

As an Electrical Engineer you are responsible for designing, developing, testing and supervising the manufacture of electrical equipment such as power distribution, electric motors, sensors and navigation systems, communications systems and power generation equipment. You will consult with industrial designers and architects while supervising construction plans and specifications to ensure work meets safety and operational standards; prepare and interpret specifications, drawings and regulations for the use of electric power equipment; and design and produce drawings of electrical systems using computer-aided design (CAD).

As an Electronics Engineer you are responsible for designing, implementing, maintaining, and improving electronic instruments, equipment, facilities, components, products, and systems on board naval vessels including solid-state physics, radio engineering, telecommunications, control systems, signal processing, systems engineering, computer engineering, instrumentation engineering, and electric power control.

Mechanical Engineer

As a Mechanical Engineer you are responsible for research and development, engineering design, production, operation and maintenance of machinery. Your will use your knowledge of mechanics, thermodynamics and materials science with the ability to use computer aided design (CAD) programs and project management skills to deliver products. Key tasks include the analysis of problems, designing of mechanical tools and equipment, developing and testing prototypes and supervising manufacturing processes.

Software Engineer

As a Software Engineer you are responsible for researching, analysing and evaluating computer programs to ensure smooth and efficient operation; identifying technological limitations and problems in existing systems, processes, procedures or operating methods; testing, debugging, diagnosing and correcting errors and faults in applications programming language so programs and applications run to specifications. You will be accountable for designing and developing effective software solutions to meet requirements; and writing program code and meeting system requirements with designs and technical specification in accordance with quality accredited standards.

Combat Systems Engineer

As a Combat Systems Engineer you are responsible for the application of engineering techniques integral to the architecture, integration and modelling of combat systems including above water and underwater sensor systems, warfare systems and its ammunition, navigation systems, communication systems, command and control systems, data processing systems, and electronic warfare systems. You will create complex test scenarios of electrical and mechanical systems, and undertaking analysis of statistical results; managing suppliers, ensuring correct specification, implementation and verification of products and interface requirements are met; installing complex electronic equipment within a highly constrained physical environment; and ensuring supplier data is correct and recorded within a central data repository.

Systems Engineer

As a Systems Engineer you will have a background in mechanical, industrial or electrical engineering, with well-developed problem solving and risk-analysis skills and knowledge of computer science, engineering and mathematical analysis. Systems engineers develop frameworks within which to define, analyse, build and maintain complex systems to provide solutions to technical problems. You will maintain the security of the system, ensuring there are backup and redundancy contingencies in place and overseeing system functionality and identifying improvement opportunities.

Structural Engineer

As a Structural Engineer you are responsible for analysing, designing, planning, and researching structural components and structural systems to understand and calculate the stability, strength and rigidity of naval vessel structures and to achieve design goals. The structural designs are integrated with those of other designers such as naval architects.

Designer

As a Designer you will use computer-aided design software and 3D modelling tools to design technical drawings, diagrams and layout schematics to illustrate workflow. You will be responsible for preparing and reviewing rough sketches and gathering product and structural requirements and specifications alongside engineering team members; identifying potential operational issues and redesigning products to improve functionality; ensuring final designs comply with regulation and quality standards; and create manuals that describe shipbuilding products, operation, features and maintenance.

Naval Architect

As a Naval Architect you are responsible for basic and applied research, design, development, design evaluation and performing ship design calculations during all stages of the life of a marine vehicle i.e. preliminary and detailed design, construction, trials, operation and maintenance, launching and dry dockings. Naval architecture also involves the formulation of safety regulations and damage control rules and the approval and certification of ship designs to meet statutory and non-statutory requirements.

ILS Engineer

As an ILS (Integrated Logistics Support) Engineer you are responsible for identifying specific operating, engineering, maintenance, supply and training support resources, concepts and requirements needed for mission system and significant support system components. Support resources typically include facilities, equipment, personnel, processes, technical data and manuals, and logistic information management systems.
